My latest video is up! On 1st April, we went on a tour organised by MPA, to embark on a learning journey to Singapore's Southernmost island - Pulau Satumu. On this tiny island sits one of Singapore's 5 lighthouses, the Raffles Lighthouse, which had been playing the role of a navigational aid since 1855. It's quite a fun and educational trip, which took us 1.5 hours one-way from Marina South Pier to Pulau Satumu. Along the way, the staff on the learning journey educated us on the navigational aids and how to recognise the many different kinds of merchant vessels. Being an ex-Navy NSF, none of these were new, but it would all be cool stuff for the unfamiliar. We spent about 2 hours on the island, including a group tour up the lighthouse. The views from up there were great, and it was nothing like what you see in daily Singapore. The lighthouse keepers are on 10-day work shifts, and they would really need to love a quiet lifestyle to be able to tahan the long, peaceful days there on the lonely island. Pulau Satumu and the Raffles lighthouse are out of bounds to the public. We were lucky to get ourselves a balloted slot on this annual learning journey. If you're interested in this unique island getaway, be sure to look out for it around next feb!
