I have to introduce my new friends at Bedok Reservoir. I've seen these monsters once recently, and was glad to them again a few days ago. They are the largest resident creatures (except monkeys) that I've seen at Bedok Reservoir to date, measuring an estimated one metre from front to end.
I saw the one above moving about in the grass, and decided to secretly tail it, to see where it was heading. It took at least 10 minutes to walk back and forth across the grass patch beside the open drain (which would take us just 10 seconds). It seemed to be looking for something. Food? Doesn't seem to have any around.
And then it stopped somewhere beside the open drain. I realised why. It had led me to discover another of its mate! It was a darker-coloured one, basking in the dirty waters inside the drain, looking abit nervous at the arrival of its same kind--it almost wanted to bolt away.
With the earlier one still overlooking from the grass patch above, the darker-coloured one found a hole in the drain, and hid away.
Bedok Reservoir proves to be teeming with biodiversity. But I'm not so sure if the recent sightings of these new creatures is a good or bad thing. Are they forced to come out into the open? In fact, I'm not very optimistic about their livelihood now in the open, with drains filled with rubbish-- plastic bags/ empty cans /food packaging, amidst the murky drain waters. I'm also suspecting that someone in the neighbourhood will start calling NEA and they'd be gone pretty soon.
On a somewhat related issue, I was shocked at seeing that a small area near the forested area is now being cleared. Trees are felled and wheels have encroached onto the green area. Development is under way, at the expense of biodiversity. I've never thought that an area just right next to the forest can also be exchanged for economic gains. It's painful to watch, I tell you.

Topsy-turvy week. Seriously. Coupled with insomnia nights.
What a way to end my last Summer holidays, and what a way to begin my final year.
After a high and happening National day and NUSSU Rag and Flag, came the realities of the start of a new academic year. To top it off, there are 2 quizzes and an assignment due the next week?!
I want my holiday back.

The UNESCO World Heritage City of Malacca, Malaysia.
6~7th Aug 2011Another squad overseas trip, which lasted for only less than 24 hours within Malacca.
We ate local specialties; walked and perspired alot; drank a little; shopped at the Jonker night market; sang karaoke overlooking the Straits of Malacca; bought alot of local food; had a birthday celebration for Robin; and played overnight card games.
As what the girls said, having such weekend getaways made the weekend seem a little longer. The main agenda really wasn't about Malacca itself, but rather, on spending a good weekend, as a break from work or even a recharge before starting school or entering the workforce.
Whatever it is, hopefully there'll be more in future!
