MyElectionsGossip#4The Workers' Party introduced its first batch of new candidates for the upcoming elections. All 3 were new and they would be contesting for the first time.
Oh, i can't help but notice the way the new candidates were introduced.
3 of them. And a woman among the 3.
Wasn't that how the ruling party introduced its new contestors? Interesting.
But my attention was set on the woman. Yup, Sylvia Lim. The woman that caught attention since about 2 months ago. She's a lecturer, was a lawyer, was a police officer, and now also the chairman of the workers' party. By looking at the speed she rose to become the chairman of the party, it suggests that she isn't one simple woman. She has the calibre. Seen by some as a potential heavy-weight, she's predicted to be leading a team to Aljunied GRC, which is the GRC that the opposition seems to have the best chances of clinching. But as to whether she really is a heavy-weight, she'll have to be tried and tested first. The polling results will reveal.
----------------------
Staying in SMGoh's Marine Parade GRC, I doubt there'll be any contest here. Unless the WP comes along on Nomination Day. But since the WP only has 20 candidates to introduce, it means it would contest for 3 GRCs. That means Marine Parade GRC would be left out.
That would mean it'll be kinda boring here. No voting, no election rallies, no actions.
That would mean i'll have to travel to Aljunied GRC if i were to witness a rally, if there is one that matches my time in the first place.
hmm.

MyElectionsGossip#3"For elections outside Singapore, the date of elections is known but results unknown. For elections inside Singapore, the date of elections is unknown but results known."
Thats something that i came across many many weeks ago.
And finally, the parliament was dissolved today and the date of the polls was announced.
That would mean the heating up of the political scene in the country. Firstly, the opposition parties would gradually reveal and introduce their slate of candidates. We'll get to see what kind of talents had been sought by the opposition wings, and whether these candidates can match the calibre of those that the ruling party had managed to get. But given the nature of Singapore politics, finding people to stand for elections for the ruling party itself is already tantamount to searching for rare gems in the ocean. Let alone finding people to stand for the opposition.
But you never know. We shall see.
And following all that, we'll expect to see more debates going on. Election issues will linger, and let's see how the parties maintain their stance. Will the NKF issues still draw interests, given the currently ongoing court case of Durai and his accomplice? (Im amazed by the absolutely right timings of the court case man...So accurately arranged to take place now and not anytime else huh???) Or will the casino issues sill appeal to voters, after a long long tiring debate last year? Or will the mere need for opposing voices in the parliament help the opposition parties achieve their goals?
Again, let's see.
But currently, there's one thing to be happy about, especially for non-voters like me who still cannot experience it, yet. And thats the public holiday on 6th May. WoooHOo.

MyElectionsGossip#2The Public Transport Council had decided to defer the annual fare revision exercise by 3 months, bringing the initial deadline to 1st Aug instead of 1st May.
Though reasons (or are they just excuses??) had been given for this deferment, I personally suspect a link between this and the upcoming elections.
If the initial deadline was 1st May, it would mean that public transport operators would have to apply for fare
revisions (or rather, fare
increment), before 1st May. That would be before elections. Obviously, it would put the ruling party in a disadvantaged position, as public sentiments, together with the opposition power, would serve to erode the ruling party's popularity, which may deny it from the 'clean sweep'.
And so, any moves that may create any public outcry, MUST be made after the elections.
And so, the deadline was deferred.
Of course, this may just be baseless guesswork on my part, but let's wait and see.
For those of you who think that "fare revisions" may refer to a fare
decrement, please wake up and realise you are in singapore.

MyElectionsGossip #1George Y made a statement, saying that Upgrading is an ongoing task and is not part of a strategy used in constituencies at election time.
This is totally unconvincing.
Then why did smchoktong made promises that the 2 opposition wards would get their desired upgradings, if the voters voted for his party and hence allowed it to achieve a clean sweep?
Wasn't that a sweetener? An attempt to lure voters? An elections strategy?
Think about it, using upgrading as an election ploy isn't fair in any way.
some parties have the financial backing to make promises to the electorate to 'improve their lives', such as upgrading works. And where do the money come from? From the electorate themselves, and accumulated over 40 years. Its obvious that it would have the upper hand when it comes to making such sweet promises.
other parties would therefore lose out. using upgradings as an election strategy certainly don't make sense, if we are talking about the fairness and equal playing ground.
If potong pasir and hougang residents are discriminated against and are left out of the country's upgrading efforts, just because they are opposition wards, can they be excused from paying income taxes? Otherwise they are merely contributing their wealth to help politicians who play politics in a rather unfair way. Aren't they fellow singaporeans?
If u dare, leave that out of elections. Be professional and transparent when it comes to elections. Underhand tactics don't really portray a gd image, does it?

1912 ppl (as of publish time) are feeling the same way as i do. Upgrading should be a separate issue.

i was reading
mrbrown's blog, and saw this snapshot of a
real chinese restaurant menu.

It was simply hilarious and i cant help but to exclaim disappointment at machine translators..
Perhaps by looking from another angle, it is beneficial to human translators, as the demand for them will not dwindle, as machines just cannot be trusted.

Well, i don't get it, why 'vegetables' can be 'rape'.
But the following one is even more ridiculous...
