I'm going to talk about a potential new hobby that involves postcards. If you have not heard about www.postcrossing.com and are lazy to check it out, it's essentially just sending a postcard to a stranger (with a given address) in a certain part of the world, and then wait to receive another postcard from another stranger from another part of the world.
It works, because postcrossing is a huge online community. You send one postcard, and someone else will send one to you soon. To me, the main draw of this is that before I click on the "request address" button, I have no idea which country this stranger is living in. And after writing and sending that postcard, I will also have no idea who I will receive a postcard from next.
I still totally new to this community, but I have already prepared my first 5 postcards to send in awhile. The postcards I got were admittedly fugly, but the next time I visit the touristy areas like Chinatown, I would stock up more better-looking ones. But here's my first 5 postcards and their dedicated recipients:
1. This card is sent to Stephanie from Oregon City, USA.
2. This card is sent to Woody from Berlin, Germany. He prefers unique postcards and not those with city views, and I had to dig deep for something like this.
3. This card is sent to Dodo from Guangxi, China. The dedicated recipient didn't share information about himself/herself, so I don't even know the gender! But I did write the postcard in Chinese.
4. This card is sent to Marina from Slavgorod, Russia.
5. This card is sent to Kasia from Bukowiec, Poland. She prefers pictures of architecture, and this probably fits.
Quite cool, isn't it? Once they've received the postcards and registered my ID on the website, I will be receiving postcards from other people next.

I caught the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics 'Live' on TV as well, making it a complete closure. I really enjoyed the 3-hour show very much, because I really loved the music. Although I rarely listened to English music, the show did put together their proudest music export of the past 50 years, and it moved me.
Closing ceremonies are after-parties and at London, they did touch the right notes. The British music were non-stop, and though most of them were quite foreign to me (especially those that were before my era), I didn't really feel bored at any time. The London Symphony Orchestra playing in the background were wonderful and I think I read somewhere that they actually put together segments from 4100 songs.
I have 2 personal favourite moments from the Closing Ceremony. One, was when the Spice Girls were re-formed for 1 night to belt out 2 of their greatest hits. Another, was when Take That performed their hit song "Rule the World" when the Olympic flame was extinguished. I had never heard of this song prior to the ceremony, but I was somehow so drawn to the song that I decided to YouTube it and subsequently looped it several times.
London2012 will very likely be the only Olympic Games that I really watched full-time for 2 whole weeks. I think I will experience some withdrawal symptoms over the next few days, and will definitely miss all the excitement that had been so synonymous with the competition.
