i can roughly remember how nervous i was exactly ONE year ago. Cos that was the very last night i had before enlistment on 6th Jan 2006. Everything seemed so uncertain, and at that time, i really couldn't imagine how the days would be. But now, looking back, i must really say that BMT was the NICEST days of ns so far.
The people around you were all of the same age, same background.. In other words, everyone else was so similar to you. There would really be no difficulties in getting to know them and to clique well with the rest. And the 'tough days' bonded everyone tightly and i was happily gelled with my room-mates. I really have very much to thank them for leaving me with wonderful BMT memories. And i really feel so relieved that our friendship still hold so well--we have once-in-two-months outings still. We celebrated our birthdays together and had countless singing sessions and food outings.
And tmr, being the first anniversary of our enlistment, and also being the 1 year anniversary of friendship, there'll be a Jap buffet celebration!!! How nice it is right? And that is really exclusive to that memorable bunk of us. And how much i hoped to join in the fun!! I was hoping so much that i wouldn't get a duty this sat, since i've already done one on NEW YEAR's DAY a few days back. But it was proven that i'm just unlucky.
But i guess i am able to console myself with the fact that since we are all so close, there'll easily be many many more similar outings soon la. What's more, we're already planning on our overseas trip this year-end!! Travelling makes me excited, especially when it's with friends! The excitement is multiplied..
Before i end it here, to all who enlisted on the same day as i did,
IT'S ONE YEAR ALREADY!
And more excitingly, ORD is just TEN MONTHS from today! That's approximately 300 days though.

roy, ys, yl, vin, jhui should be the first people i meet in 2007.
it should be quite a last minute effort, considering that when i started asking ppl, most of the replies were "got something on already", hence explaining the turnout.
we had dinner at a jap restaurant, quite an ulu one at suntec, cos we didnt wanna queue. then after much of aimless walking, we set off for esplanade and reached at 10 plus. The crowd was just horrible, and it began drizzling--luckily for a mere 20 minutes. We watched the 11pm mini appetiser of fireworks, and decided to just leave the oxygen-deprived area, to head for supper instead.
Rochor beancurd + dough fritters (youtiao) were great, and with that, we entered 2007. Though both jhui and i were going to have duty hours later, none of us wanted to head home. The initial plan of going kbox was foiled due to the sky-high rates, and so we went for an alternative activity--pool.
I only slept at nearly 4:30am back at home, only to wake at 7am to report for duty. Oddly speaking, i was able to hang on and i wasnt as sleepy as i thought throughout the next day.
Perhaps good company also has the effect of invigorating.
May 2007 be a happening year!

D) 2006 in a few words
.
Generally i feel that 2006 has been largely a boring year. Routined life throughout the year spells out everything. In JANUARY, i remembered how nervous i was before enlistment, not knowing what to expect and how everything would turn out. Then i realised that with good company around, time seemed to pass very fast and BMT seemed to be so short.

In FEBRUARY, i got very worried about how my 'A' Levels results would turn out. That anticipation could really shorten one's life. And I was quite relieved when i knew the results, as it wasn't as bad as i thought..
.
MARCH was the end of BMT, and it was kinda sad to part with my BMT-mates. I was surprised when i was posted to the Navy, and to date, i still don't know whether i was being lucky -or not-. I applied for scholarships, and was called up for 3 different interviews, and that was the end of the story. But i didnt care much, probably because i wasnt pretty interested.

i followed closely with MAY's elections and attended rallies, which were a big eye opener. And because Singapore politics is ever sensitive, and because my knowledge of it is so superficial, it is never wise to elaborate.
.
If i'm not wrong, i was accepted into my first choice of study in JUNE. i got into chemical engineering + business in NUS, and i've received conflicting comments on whether i should stick on to it. I didnt know why i chose that, perhaps its because i don't know what else to choose from.

i got my driving license in JULY 19th, one date that is easily remembered. Because i barely passed, with 18 demerit points, i knew i was plain lucky. But i haven't got much chance to practice my driving skills since then, cos my dad always needs to use it for various purposes.

In AUGUST, i entered the last phase of course in Navy and it was quite enjoyable. The course ended in OCTOBER and i was posted to my current ship. It wasn't until DECEMBER that i became a recognised ship crew.
.
This year had also been the year that i've spent record amount of money on entertainment like karaoke. Maybe because it's the most convenient form of outing you can organise on a weekend, other than movies + food. Yes, for the latter 2, spendings had been on the rise as well.
.
Sometimes it seemed that 2006 passed rather quickly, and other times it seemed to be crawling its way to the 31st of december. But in any case, we've really really really reached the very end of year 2006. It's time to look forward to a more exciting year ahead. For me, i'll definitely look forward to November 2007, when i can attain the freedom i desire so badly!

New Year Resolutions?
Whenever a new year arrives, people will start writing their new year resolutions away. But what significance does it bear? Look, if you have important things to achieve, you don't need those pointers to remind you. In fact, if they are important enough, you'd be motivated to accomplish them as soon as possible, do you actually need the whole year to fulfill? And of course, if something is not important, why bother?
I remembered making some resolutions before, and realised that whatever i had written would be quickly forgotten. And when the year had come to an end, the results weren't what it was planned to be. Some goals were fulfilled--but that was due to my personal motivation throughout the year and my own desire to achieve them, rather than because i 'referred to those forgotten resolutions'. Undoubtedly, other targets on the list went cleanly forgotten, and i would only remember them when i dig them out at the very end of the year, and that is, IF i still remember where i stuffed them to.
For people like me, i think i should just adopt short-term goals. Fulfill these goals in the limited time frame that i set, and then make another, and then move on. At least it won't give me the chance to procrastinate, which may be the case of a new year resolution, where you have one full year to accomplish.
But everything just boils down to your own attitudes. However big or small your goals are, if there's no determination to it, it will never be realised. Hence i think it pays to keep reminding myself that: Dreams are only dreams unless i do something about it. So i guess my one big resolution shall be, to set my hands and legs to accomplish whatever that i had planned.
So for those who make new year resolutions, do adhere to them and don't make them mere paper talk. And for those who don't, do at least think about some major things you'd wanna achieve and stop idling around.. A brand new year is here, so don't waste yet another 365 days of your life.
Lastly, i hope that i'll be blessed with unending good luck for year 2007 and all the remaining years to come! And may happiness shower all of you out there as well! 2007 shall be a great one.
