ENGINCAMP 09 is over!
I can't believe a camp 6-months in the making ended in just 4 days 3 nights. I am gonna feel so empty all of a sudden, now that everything's over.
I remember when the committee first met in OCTOBER last year, all of us didn't know majority of the others. Not even after a Committee Cohesion event right after the November Exams. And yet, through the many meetings and outings and of course, the bond formed during the Dry Runs and this actual camp, I witnessed team synergy, based on a sole common purpose.
I guess ONE thing the committee will definitely remember, is how much effort we put in to prepare for our Finale Night Item. We started learning the 'Nobody' dance one month ago, and none of the practices saw a good attendance. But we put off a good Finale performance last night, after dancing half a hundred times. Watching the performance videos will certainly bring up countless funny/memorable moments while learning/practicing and getting stressed over it. Super Upzz.
Just like how Kenneth put it in his email, "the biggest satisfaction you can gain is that at the end of the day, when you look down that stage and you see your campers putting their arms around one another, regardless of og, house or gender. that's when you know you've accomplished what we all set out to do from the start and that's exactly what i saw tonight." To that, i agreed. In fact, I was all smiles when doing the 'Nobody' dance. It was like a 'Graduation' sort-of-thing. I danced it, knowing that it was probably the LAST time i would, and totally enjoyed that few minutes onstage. I might have been blocked by bigger-sized chunhong in front, but it was a CampComm item as a whole, and I was super glad our performance was the most anticipated and got the loudest claps.
But there were still lots of disappointments though. It was Sentosa Hunt for me. It was really OMG. Sentosa Hunt was one thing i was looking forward to. And it involved MUCH MUCH more plannings compared to the Beach Games. ANd unlike Beach games, I enjoyed the planning process for Sentosa Hunt. And the team had helped so much in it, from planning to DRY Run; and the logistics team had got all the items ready; and all the relevant things were printed; the station masters were briefed etc. Looking back, I joined the committee thinking that I would be planning an Amazing race around Singapore. Then it was replaced by the City Hunt thing by 'E', saying that they'd rather want a OTOT thing for the last day. Ok, so Sentosa Hunt naturally became the next best 'race-based' event. But delays and delays killed it in the end. 胎死腹中. It was a little painful on that morning, when i heard that if we couldn't start the beach games on time, 'they would rather shorten the Sentosa hunt'. An allocated timing of 3 hours for that wasn't enough in the first place, really. I was a little sad when it was cut from the inital 4 hours. But it was still better than nothing.
Seriously, if it really was inevitable, then that's that. But things would have been better if people were more cooperative. Sentosa day was a very stressful day. Timings were supposed to be very tightly adhered to, since it was supposed to be a long day. It didnt turn out very well, and perhaps I didn't do a good job at that. After it was officially confirmed that Sentosa Hunt was cancelled, I was the first to volunteer to leave to help out at SP in school. I guessed I couldn't stand the sight of seeing freshies having free time there for the next few hours, probably doing nothing around.
And there was the City Hunt too. I thought we could pull off something different this year, and make it big, amazing-race style. But it was always the Club Committee, or rather 'E', who had so much to say and influence. So it became HIS city hunt, and HIS mystery night. Granted, E might be an important advisor. But then, he's not the camp director eh? And not to forget the SP thing..the proposals were out long ago, but until the very last minute, nothing seemed to be confirmed. PF was visibly stressed. But thankfully the SP revelation wasn't bad.
But it's nevermind now, since those hiccups were behind-the-scenes. I believe it's still an enjoyable camp afterall. Seriously, if i were a Freshie this year, I would have loved the camp too.
