I shall make it a goal to reduce my procrastination tendencies.
I shall try to be more punctual and have more awareness of Time.
I shall improve my religious and spiritual understandings.
I shall smile more often and be more approachable. And be more likeable.
I shall not have such a sleepy look every time.
I shall learn to sleep earlier than 2am. Then 1am. Then hopefully 12am.
I shall carry out my plans and honour the promises I make to myself.
I will find happiness. And goals. And motivation.
I shall try to maintain friendships.
I shall learn new things. Experience new stuffs.
I shall dream a little dream.
I shall be myself. And not to mould myself after anyone. And yet be likeable.
I shall cherish life. And Time. Everything.
I shall try to be less emo. (But I won't stop listening to emo songs.)
These shall not be just random-ness at 3am in the morning.

Taipei Trip 2008-2009
Day 1(26/12/08): Touchdown at 桃园国际机场/ Check-in/ 西门町/ 士林夜市

Our hotel was right at 西门町, and we had to pass by this popular shopping district every day to reach the MRT. And so 西门町 had to be the most frequently visited place. Actually, my impression of 西门町wasn't like it is, after hearing everyone saying it's "like Orchard Road". Which part of it looks like Orchard Road la! More like Japan's Harajuku. But i really like the hippiness of 西门町. It's so lively!
Photo: 西门町
And we proceeded to 士林夜市in the early evening, and we spent hours and hours over there! We first went to a long food street (not 士林夜市), which is near 士林, thinking it was the place we were going. And the snacking marathon began since. Eat-and-walk-and-eat-and-walk. I think I was snacking for at least 2 hours with the group, all the way until we realised we've reached the REAL 士林夜市. Oh my, there was just too much food to squeeze! Taiwanese snacks are just so great. Pure even counted the number of different specialties we've tried, and the number was at least 26!!!!!!!!!

Day 2(27/12/08): 阳明山/ 新北投(温泉)/ 淡水--渔人码头/ Miramar Entertainment Centre
We hiked 阳明山! Well, not really. The buses were too far and few, so we tried to walk up a little, only to be told by locals that it would take hours. So in the end we cabbed a little. Then walked to a waterfall site, and continued up. It was quite a disappointment, cos somehow I suspect we were not at the correct part of the mountain, and so we didnt see much scenic views? By the time we reached an unknown somewhere (with a main road), it was already afternoon and hot. So, the 阳明山adventure ended here, with a bus down.

One of my favourite dogs in Taiwan. Really very cuteeeeeee.
Bear sighted within 阳明山

Then we proceeded to go 新北投, an area of well-known hot springs.
We first visited a Hot Springs Museum(Photo above) at 新北投, then proceeded to choose which hot spring to go for. Their hot springs were much cheaper than the one I went in Japan (about S$26??) ! The one we entered here cost just about S$12. And it's just like Japan's--you have to leave all clothings in the locker area. And of course, the revitalizing and refreshing effects after the experience... It was almost dark and we took the MRT to 淡水, followed by a bus trip to 渔人码头. I've always heard of 渔人码头from the many concerts held there, and so was a little looking forward to it. It was very windy there, since it's a harbour. And it has such a nice ambience, very romantic for couples to sit along the bridge and appreciate the view.
The Lovers' Bridge's pretty too.
And you can hear performers singing while enjoying the sea breeze. Really nice.

Next up, we went to Miramar Entertainment Centre, which was the filming site of 换换爱.The icon would have to be the observation wheel there. We went up, and it was rather cheap, about 5 times cheaper than Sg Flyer. Still, acrophobia got over me and my hands got really sweaty up there. But I'm glad to have expanded my collection of Observation Wheel experiences, after Sg Flyer and the Skywheel at Odaiba, Tokyo.

Supper was back at 西门町, where we unknowingly went into a Swing-themed restaurant. The seats were actually hung from the ceiling by metal chains, and the floor was stones and pebbles. I was perpetually swinging throughout the entire supper, with food that wasn't at all satisfying.
--------------------------------------------
Day 3(28/12/08): 西门町/ 台北101/ 五分埔/ 饶河夜市/ 诚品书店
The company lunch was at a Japanese Buffet Restaurant right in the middle of 西门町.
Coincidentally, it overlooked (DIRECTLY OPPOSITE) the stage of the Autograph Session of Fahrenheit (飞轮海). We already saw some fans queued up last night, and the event started only at 2pm. We left after the band finished their performances.

We then made our way to the tallest building in the world, and the elevator was the fastest in the world too. In 37 seconds, we reached the 89th storey. We were issued with an audio guide, which was pretty cool, as it guides you from sections to sections, telling you the various important landmarks/areas that can be seen from the 101 building.
Photo: The famous world's largest damper in 101. (From 89th to 92nd storey)
五分埔was next on the itinerary. It's a shopping haven for fashionable clothes. Streets and streets of competitive shops selling to the same target consumers. But about 80% of the shops sell female clothes. I bought only 1 shirt and a pair of slippers here.
饶河夜市(Photo above) is another well-known night market, and it is walkable from 五分埔. Here, I satisfied another round of snacking again. After eating-and-walking, we went back to the city area and visited the big 诚品书店.
Photo: Outside 诚品书店.
Back at the hotel, we continued the night with the Mafia game, and didn't end until 4am.
--------------------------------------------
Day 4(29/12/08): 西门町/ 国父纪念馆/ 忠孝东路
As majority of the group was flying back in the afternoon, the first part of the day was mainly souvenir-shopping, at SOGO and 西门町.
Photo: I like the Elevator Girls at SOGO!
I finally tried 阿宗面线, something you have to try before claiming you've been to 西门町.

Photo: 阿宗面线is easily recognisable from the standing crowd slurping the meesua outside.
We also had a veeery big serving of ice-cream and shaved ice.
After waving goodbye to them, the remaining 4 of us who extended the trip went on to 忠孝东路 to window-shop. We visited 国父纪念馆, built for the respectful 孙中山. After which, we had a delicious 便当dinner, but it was rather oily. Window-shopping continued at 忠孝东路, before we went back 西门町 for my haircut.

Day 5(30/12/08): 中正纪念堂/ 基隆/ 野柳

Morning was a visit to 蒋介石Chiang Kai-Shek's 中正纪念堂, which had been renamed as 台湾民主纪念馆 by 陈水扁. The parade square in front of it is now renamed "自由广场". I wonder when 马英九 is going to reinstate the characters "大中至正" and the name of "中正纪念堂".
Next, we took a train (not the MRT) to 基隆, where we caught a bus to 野柳. It had been raining for 2 days by now, but we continued with our plans.
野柳 is a coastal area, where there are strange rock formations, caused by erosion by the powerful crashing waves. This trip to 野柳地质公园(Yeliu GeoPark) was one of my favourites. It was windy, partly due to the coastal area and partly due to the rain.

Photo: We came to 海角1号! But this was a toilet :S
The cliffs and rock formations were simply breathtaking. We braved the rain and went to the extreme end of the park, at the hilltop, and it was really very windy. Frankly speaking, I was having the fear of being blown away if I didn't crouch and bend while walking. We didn't want to stay up there too long, since we can't hear each other talking anyway!!

Photo: Taken from the veeeery windy spot
野柳 boasts the iconic Queen's Head rock and many others, including another of my favourites: the Chessboard.

Of course, we didn't want to lose the chance of having seafood dinner there, from the local catches! But since it was raining, I guess we were the only patrons of the day. Then we bus-ed back to 基隆, and visited the night market there, before train-ing back to Taipei.

--------------------------------------------
Day 6(31/12/08): 2009台北最high新年城After lunch, we went straight to City Hall to get a good spot (around 2:30pm), to await the countdown concert "2009台北最high新年城". I've never attended a concert so long before--6 hours!!! When we reached in the afternoon, we managed to catch A*Mei and Sodagreen rehearsing for their segments. But it really was a long wait to 7pm, with intermittent rain and chilly winds.
A*Mei rehearsing for her almost 1-hour segment.
The singers list (in order of appearance) include 苏打绿,S.H.E,大嘴巴,叁劈,顽童,MC Hotdog,卢广仲,萧敬腾,陈绮贞,梁静茹,强辩乐团,丁当,张惠妹,五月天.

The much awaited fireworks at Taipei 101 (just opposite the concert) was just 3 minutes long. I thought it would have been much longer, since it was such a hype. But still, I enjoyed the concert pretty much, and the atmosphere and liveliness there will dwarf ANY new year countdown event in boring Singapore. It makes me want to join their party every year...The event ended at 1am. And their MRT was SOOO NICE to extend their services to 24 hours, to send everyone back home!!! So we went for a great supper (after standing for 11 long hours) before taking the MRT back to 西门町.
--------------------------------------------
Day 7(01/01/09): 西门町
The last day was spent shopping for food, especially 太阳饼. And I spent away the remaining NT dollars on clothes for myself. I had hoped to have a wardrobe makeover, but it wasn't very possible with all their long-sleeves winterwear on display. So all in all, i only got a few shirts, a jacket, a pair of jeans, a pair of bermudas, a pair of slippers and a pair of shoes..
--------------------------------------------
And I really thank the company for such a nice retreat, though this may be the only time I can come. (2008 was relatively free, that's why I could complete so many work-deals to qualify). This really was a good resting trip before the next semester starts..
