I was very lucky to have the chance to be an audience at this year's National Day Parade rehearsal, with tickets from my cousin's family. I really cannot recall when was the last time I sat in the audience seat -- I think it could be when I was in Primary 5 some 15 years ago.
This year's stage was very simply designed -- just 4 rectangle LED screens behind, and one larger one in front. Perhaps with the Marina Bay Sands and the Marina Bay Financial Centre as the backdrop, there wasn't much of a need to decorate the stage any further.
(Above) I quite liked this mass display item, put up by a large group of performers wearing carefully-designed coloured costumes. It was about how certain key places in Singapore got their names from legends, and about how Sang Nila Utama found this Lion City. The constant changing images created by the performers reminded me very much of our Flashcard Display item on Youth Day in 2001, at the demolished National Stadium.
(Above) I liked the effect created by these torches.
(Above) There was a segment that paid tribute to our Team Singapore sportsmen and sportswomen, which was very thoughtful, because it included lesser-known athletes like the Synchronised Swimming team and the Paralympics representatives.
(Below) Our Paralympic Equestrian team with their ponies.
(Above) I could hardly take a good shot of the fireworks display, because it was smokey and the smoke got blown to the stage area.
