Up till now, im still touched by the rally last night. It would be one that I would always remember.

It was truly impactful.

The pledge taking at the end wasn't something describable. The volume, the emotions, the atmosphere. The silent message that the party wasn't out to disintegrate the country, not "trouble-makers MPs" , not "hooligans", not "wayang party", not "thief", or watever the ruling party called them. Everything they wanted to convey, was effectively done so, and summed up, inside the pledge.

Read this blog entry.

http://singabloodypore.blogspot.com/2006/05/proud-singaporeans.html

Look at the comments of the people who attended with me. Imagine the number of people crying. Imagine how much support Singaporeans actually give the opposition, in particular, the WP.

The opposition wouldnt win, for sure. But the fighting spirit really inspired me. And Mr Low is my idol. If the results tonight turn-out that the ruling party's popularity is slashed to 60-odd percentage, i would deem it as a big victory for the opposition.

For a little while, i thought i was at NDP.

The more than 40,000-strong(my own humble estimation) supporters at the stadium. The high-level of participation from the huge crowds. The repeated cheers and resounding applause. The waving of the flag. And also, the reciting of the pledge at the end of the programme.

--But it wasnt at the National Stadium, it was at Serangoon Stadium. But mind you, can you ever imagine having the entire stadium overpacked, such that the entire field and the track are all saturated with standing people? Such that thousands and thousands have to stand outside the stadium, and some could only hear but cannot see?

--The flags were red and white. But it wasnt the S'pore flag. It was the Workers' Party flag. People were waving throughout the rally, especially during times when the candidates hit the tempo and connect totally to the people's hearts. I, too, bought one for myself, and waved with all the others.

--And almost everyone was chanting "Worker's Party! WOrker's Party!" at certain points during the 3-hour rally. The chanting business got so high and out of control at 10pm, after the recitation of the pledge, which is something initiated by the WP leaders. Those who weren't present certainly wouldnt have an idea of how it was. I was really surprised at how united everyone was. THe unison chants were deafening, and I seemed to be an alien there for keeping quiet. As i was inside the stadium, it took me around 25 minutes before i was able to hit the stadium exit. And guess what? The chanting kept on for the entire time! Imagine the scene of ppl moving and shouting "Workers' Party! Workers' Party!", I certainly got a feel of what it was like to be in a demonstration... It should be rather similar, i believe. And interestingly, there were also "Ole Ole Ole" cheers after the rally ended...When someone started it, the rest of the supporters would sing it immediately, and very soon, you will feel as though Singapore had won the World cup. Ok, perhaps you will feel as though WP had won the elections. Everyone was really high-spirited and smiley and enthusiastic.

Hardly had i seen so many people, other than NDP. Not even in a typical heavenly celebrity's autograph session. More than a concert audience.

But most of all, I admire LowThiaKhiang. Not just because he is also a fellow Teochew Low, but all because he's a great speaker, a radical contributor as a voice, and as a friendly and well-liked MP.

But will voters show him the support as much as how they showed him today at the rally for Aljunied GRC? Will the high-profile Gomez issue serve to bring in more votes or cause the party's Team A to suffer more losses? Will sylvia lim prove to be the strongest new-comer among all the other parties' newbies? Will the voters bite the upgrading carrot instead, which is so alluring and which is also written on letters sent to them today by the ruling party? So how will Aljunied GRC's contest turn out, given that its the MOST well-prepared (5 years in the making) fight by both parties?

Answers out in less than 24 hours.

My stomach condition over the past 3 days, was rather bad.

Erm, i hope you aren't expecting me to describe what its like, are you?

But, i think its a condition worth worrying.

#1: Its been a long-term, on-and-off condition. Especially over the past 2 years.
#2: It can't be the food. I ate the same food, drank the same drinks as others.

And perhaps also due to this reason --> I read somewhere, sometime ago, that Cancerians need to take extra care of their digestive system. And i thought the advice was kinda true..

And sometimes i would just blame my failed weight-gaining plans on this.

And sometimes, i would just be pessimistic enough to think about whether this would bring me to any big health-related problems in future. In the form of cancers or wadsoever. But of cos i hope that would never happen.

Alright, my stomachache problems aside for the moment.

Being in this urbanised world, its more practical to prepare yourselves to die from illnesses and complications, rather than of old age. Even though medical advancements have steered towards the possibilties of longevity, I would prefer to stand by the belief that at present, most of us would be leading shorter lives, due to both mental stress and environmental influence.

My jc gp tutor brought up, that 1/2 of us will perish from cancer-related illnesses, while the other 1/2 would be heart-related ailments. Of cos, by choosing to die from heart-related problems might have been better, than dying from a long, torturous, weary and sure-lose fight against cancer. But too bad, we cant choose. If given a choice between the 2, i'll choose heart problems. Get a sudden cardiac arrest, experience hell for that few minutes, and u'll be gone forever. Swift and sweet.

And some other times, i do ponder on whether its better to:
1. lead a long life, say up to 80 years, but not being happy
2. lead a short life, say around 40 to 50 years, but being happy

Both options are equally drooling. By leading a long life, i may be able to do alot more things and perhaps travel a greater distance. But what if the long life includes having to fight illnesses and diseases at the later part, and hence experiencing a hard and tough end to life? On the other hand, by leading a short life, if its possible to live each day in a meaningful way, and letting each day pass in its greatest worth, will it not beat and surpass that of a longer life?

But well, to me, Life's predestined. However, it still matters most how you wanna lead it and let each day pass.

And of cos, i believe that you do have a little say over how you die.

If you wanna die from heart-related problems, just eat all the way to deathbed.

happy labour day.

but there's nothing worth to be that happy about for me. cos a supposed-ly LONG weekend, became a SHORTER-than-typical weekend. Kudos to guard duties. Especially SUNDAY duties. And so i came out on saturday, went back on sunday morning, came out today morning, and going back in tonight. Thankfully, i don't reside in Boon Lay huh..

anyway, last week was an exciting one.

1. On monday, i was caught for sleeping in the hall, along with 10++ others. And hey, i was quite worried then, cos the punishment would be a confinement. But luckily i escaped that. As to whether i would still dare to sleep during office hours, haha, likely.

2. On wednesday, i got the top level of the swimming test! And together with the ippt silver, it would mean that i'll be free from every friday evening! But the swimming results was a hard-earned one, cos i'll have to face my Fear of Heights and dive in.. And also other aspects that took the life out of me.

3. I had both wednesday n thursday nights free, and so went tampines on both nights. the first night was spent with jiaozhu and the second was with cabin-mates. And i spent almost all pocket money outside, just on food.

4. FOUR cases of theft was reported on friday. Everyone and everywhere was searched but none of the items was recovered. Instead, our lives on that day was one of the worst. And our first course in Navy finally started on that day, and that means NO MORE slacking anymore. Sigh. Thats a pretty sad fact to face.

5. Saturday. Went shopping with jiaozhu, baabaa and lz. But in the end, none of us bought anything but ended up eating lots. And took neoprints as well.

Then after that, I went to my first TWO election rallies of my life. Actually, i was quite disappointed that i missed the WP's rally on friday night. It was just below my house lor. But too bad i was still in camp. So to satisfy my curiosity, i had to visit the rallies in Tampines. One was for the ruling party and the other for the SDA. I managed to catch both cos they were of walking distance. It was interesting to see how each of the parties dug at their opponents and slam their candidates. It was also interesting to see how the speeches stirred the crowds and created strong sentiments among their many supporters. I would have visited more rallies if i had the chance. But well, those 2 were the only ones that i can catch in this GE.

hMm. Im glad the coming week is a short one.
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Full stop. Cos friday is RSN day and we're required to take leave. :/

But because i had to fulfill yet another guard duty on next Sunday AGAIN, its really sian jit pua.
