Nike Human race in Singapore had ended!
A quick check on the official website shows that Singaporeans' average timing for this race ranks among the slowest around the cities all over the world. Londoners run, on average, 15 minutes faster in this 10km race, crossing the line at about 61 minutes. However, at the time of doing this entry, the race at some cities is still in progress, while some others have yet to start. But the participation rate in Singapore is among the highest--we have more than 5 times the number of people running than in London.
I was quite excited when I passed the 'Start' line. Probably because it wasn't a 5:30am race--so I was more awake, and perhaps because it's the first time I'm doing it in a 8-people big group, from CampComm. I was supposed to do it with Robin, who fell sick unfortunately.
So yes, I started with the right feel. But soon enough, I got a little fed-up over the bottlenecks. It certainly made overtaking tough. That continued until almost 3km into the race, in which only about 2 lanes of the road were cordoned for running. I made up for the lost time once we reached the stadiums, and began to conquer the crowd from the side road and kerbs.
For once, I decided not to take timing on my own during the race, which proved to be useful, since I wouldn't accelerate (or decelerate) in accordance to the amount of time I have, to meet my targets. So, in a way, I was kept on my toes and did the 10km faster than any practice runs. I couldn't believe it when I saw the clock above the 'Finish' Line. It showed 58 minutes, and I started 6 minutes late, so my personal timing was 52:02, well within 1 hour!
There were so many familiar faces around that I almost thought it was a school event. Fun.
人生是黑白的.
