I saw this blog post about someone's "25 Things I Have Learnt Travelling While Backpacking in Europe", and I immediately knew I must share it here.
I can identify with all, if not most of the points, and hey, it applies to backpacking ANYWHERE too.
Undoubtedly, it made me want to go on a trip again.

The parents went Taipei over the weekend, and I was as excited as them. They requested an itinerary from me, and I tailored one for them, telling them that they need not follow it, since it's OTOT and they can just go anywhere they like. (Taipei is too easy to navigate around nowadays).
They last visited Taiwan 25 years ago, on a tour. They probably didn't spend more than 2 days in Taipei at that time. 25 years after, they could see how different the city had become. The city has become busier, and there's already an MRT system now. (The system is only less than 2 decades old). In my opinion, Taipei MRT is one of the best subway systems I've ever taken, and I'm glad the parents generally felt that way too, by happily transferring here and there.
Eventually, they did visit 90% of what I planned for them, and even went to try out the local specialties that I suggested, like 阿宗面线 in 西门町. They had fun exploring the local delights at 士林夜市、饶河夜市、通化街夜市; got awed by the views from Taipei 101; did the cultural attractions; window-shopped at 诚品, Sogo, 新光三越;and went to the suburbs at 法鼓山、金山and 基隆。
And because of this trip, they learnt about the usefulness of Free WIFI, and we communicated every night by VIBER. On top of it, they also sent photos using WHATSAPP. I'm totally proud of them. I think they had fun and I'm happy for them.
(Oh yes, they also bought me 赛德克巴莱 DVD, which I shamelessly requested before they left for Taipei.)
