In just less than 4 days, this road (on the left), which was badly destroyed in the mega 9.0-earthquake, was almost fully repaired (on the right)! It seemed as if nothing serious had happened.

They recovered quickly from the Great Hanshin Earthquake in Kobe in 1995, which saw more than 6000 deaths. The city was quickly rebuilt and the country was up on track with speedy economy recovery. The triple disasters this time might be much more catastrophic, but I'm sure they'll be just as efficient.

The Japanese are known for being resilient, hardy but calm, civic-minded and orderly. They totally displayed their humanity traits over the past week, with heartwarming stories pouring like a tsunami. That is why I believe they will stand up again very soon.

As a socially responsible blogger, even though I have just 2 or 3 readers, it's still my duty to encourage you to donate to the relief efforts in Japan.

Earthquakes + Tsunamis + Aftershocks + Nuclear Disasters + Bitter snow weather + Tumbling Economy. And more. Donating is probably the only way we can help.

The gahmen donated S$500,000. This is 10 times more than the amount given to Haiti last year, but still much less than the increment given to the President this year.. We laypeople can definitely do much better.

BUT please make sure that the organisations you engage are legitimate. To be sure, just donate to the Singapore Red Cross Society, which is on close ties with the Japanese Red Cross. Visit their website HERE!

This socially responsible blogger will also pledge half his earnings from his part-time job this Saturday to the cause.
