Happy 2551st Vesak Day!

This is the most meaningful vesak day i've ever had.
.
Wenjian and i reached Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery (光明山普觉禅寺) in the morning and started our volunteer duties.. We signed up under the 'Environmental Fair' section and basically we were to educate the public and increase awareness in recycling.
.
But perhaps due to the 'ulu-ness' of the exhibiton area since it was a little out of way (the temple site is really enormous), there wasn't many people visiting the fair.
.
So we impromptu-ly set up a make-shift booth outside the Dining Hall, where there were at least a thousand people at any time during the lunch hours. And there, we showed the public things that were recyclable and things that weren't. Admittedly, educating people of recycling is really really an uphill task. So, if we had been able to convince a handful of people on recycling and increased general awareness, i'll be more than glad..
.
But one thing that we were quite helpless about, was the thousands of paper and plastic cups thrown away outside the Dining Hall. Because of the sheer large numbers, it sort of pained by heart to see them all gone to waste. Those cups could have been briefly cleaned and sent to recycling plants. I really hope that something could be done for all subsequent mega events like today's.

And surprise! Ex-classmates Elvina (07/04) and Pamela (2I) were also fellow volunteers at the environmental fair! Yup, it was heartening to know of active people around me, hoping to do something special on this important day.

Then in the evening, we went up for the concert, 《佛·笑》音乐会, held in conjunction with the release of the 《佛·笑》album. Top local male singers, A-Do and Junyang, both sang a song each in this Buddhist album. This concert showcases some of the songs inside this album, which was produced by 'Ocean Butterflies Music', with a trendy pop-feel. Especially the A-Do song, which can really be taken to be a pop chinese song. Anyway, the song by A-Do is 活过, the one by Junyang is 露水.

And at the grand finale, we were on the stage! Ok, the volunteers were invited to be 'Kong Meng San FANCLUB', and so we were rallying behind 广声法师's performance! He sang 6 songs inside the album, of which he performed 2 on stage..
(and i could almost appear in the news if the cameraman stopped at the position for 2 more seconds..)

yea, so kinda fun. i'll definitely wanna be part of such meaningful events again.

our department had an international buffet for lunch at raffles the plaza, and the variety of the food sucks. quite disappointing. Luckily the desserts segment managed to redeem itself a little.
Still, i ate to my maximum fill. But judging by the variety of food available, the $32+++ price wasn't at all worth it.
But it doesnt really matter, since i wasn't the one paying~!

today i went sph to collect my NEWest win from Radio1003's [Sunday 11] programme. The CD is 'We all love Ennio Morricone'. Well, to be really honest, when the dj asked for sms-es to win the prize, i didnt even have the slightest idea who Ennio Morricone is. Or what genre of music the CD content contains. Or the fact that i have no interest in music other than Chinese pop.
So, when i received the letter to inform me to collect the prize, i knew that i could have deprived someone who might have an idea about the CD and was hoping to win it.
The CD contains some tracks of instrumental pieces, some of la-la-la songs of relaxational nature and others of songs, sung by various singers, that were composed by that Ennio Morricone.
After listening, i knew that it would be chucked at one corner of my cupboard by the end of today.
don't blame me for not being so appreciative.. chinese pop will always attract me.
by the way, come to think of it, this should be at least the 3rd CD i've won from just the ufm1003's [sunday 11] programme only.
A little advertisement for the programme:
[sunday 11] airs from 10pm to 12mn every sunday, on ufm 1003.

This was taken just after the daily Sunset Ceremony.. (below)
Piping is an essential aspect in naval life. Different types of sounds are to be made at certain times of the day. This is done by the movement of your fingers at varying intervals, depending on the particular 'pipe' that you are going to make. This piping will be broadcasted throughout the ship through the PA system (the mic im holding), and no errors are to be made.. or else....
And this is the passageway.. very narrow..
This is where our chefs prepare our meals during sailing. SUPER small, at least 10 times smaller than those of bigger ships..
This is where I sleep.. 2 pictures taken at each end.. This is the worst living condition compared to all the ships across the navy. During sailings, some would even have to sleep on the floor. 
The board that shows the ship crew.. can spot me?
And by the way, the water spout that was spotted by many on last friday was caught on my camera as well..
Well, i guess these are the only pictures i can take.

oh no. I just found out that on 2 Dec 2007, TWO major events are gonna happen together.
#1: Standard Chartered Marathon
#2: Japanese Language Proficiency Test
I want to miss NEITHER of them. And both takes place ONCE a year.
This is very bad......................................
