It was an epic and memorable trip in May’17, which was originally intended for WL and her friend CY to attend their friend’s wedding in Vancouver. It eventually panned out to be a partial road trip for the 3 of us, and then slowly evolved to be an activities-filled 16-day YOLO trip. Follow the entries to read about the daily happenings!
Day 13: Toronto
We walked from our accommodation to the Union Station to commence our first free walking tour of the day. We had signed up online and thought it would be a good idea to join the free walking tours to learn more about the city. Personally, I enjoyed such free walking tours, because this is usually the most direct and rawest way of ‘taking in the sights’. I ended up staying for all 3 of the back-to-back walking tours, including one that focused on the Saint Lawrence Market, which the 2 girls decided not to.
Hours of walking later, we met up over dinner with WL’s friend who was previously in Singapore for exchange during university. The friend and her Canadian husband brought us to a nice pub restaurant that served pretty nice food, although we waited really long for a table to be available.
Having spent a full day in Toronto, we developed the impression that Torontonians were less warm than Canadians from elsewhere, like Vancouverites, for example. Perhaps it’s the way people in mega financial cities are – bankers and professionals hustling from one shiny skyscraper to the next. They seem to be preoccupied with rushing and getting things done, just like someone you’d see at Shenton Way at a weekday rush hour. Even as tourists, we could feel the difference in the pace of life here in Toronto.
