Langkawi was another great weekend getaway. The EnginCampComm (ECC) is a fun-loving group to begin with, so when 13 of us took Leave and flew ourselves to an island away from home, the crazy/dumb/laughable things that we did were enough to last a long time.
ECC had got a number of overseas trips, but this time the number of participants reached 13, the biggest we've ever had. ECC favours the chillax kind of trip, so a private Sari Villa in Langkawi was the perfect place to house us for a long weekend.
This is the view from one of our 2 villas. Each villa is 3-storeys high with 4 rooms, overlooking the sea. Really the quiet hideout for people to escape the city's hustles.
Day 1
We touched down before 10pm on Friday, 7 March, and headed straight to the villa for the night. But as with all ECC trips/stayovers, the night doesn't end till 3am. We messed up the furniture (we like to shift mattresses and congregate them into 1 room to sleep everyone) and played cards for the 1st night.
Day 2
Everyone woke up with a lack of sleep on Saturday morning. We drove ourselves to Kuah Town for lunch, then to Kilim Karst Geoforest park, where we had a 5-hour long tour that included a visit to a Bat cave, Kayaking in the sea & mangrove, Eagle watching and a simple dinner. The fun was always the camwhoring and group selfies that squeeze all 13 people. (We really draw attention and make heads turn whenever we do a group selfie)
At night, the sky was literally filled with stars. But the bright moon was a hindrance to spotting shooting stars, as was the slight haze that was present. But nevertheless, the night sky was dazzling and we tried to spot constellations and the Milky Way, while feeding mosquitoes in the dark open area a short drive away from the villa.
Back at the villa, we had a really crazy session of charades all the way till 3am. We literally laughed for hours over very epic descriptions and actions that included internal jokes. Too memorable.
Day 3
I woke up slightly later than some of the rest who could still get up for a 7am sunrise. We did island hopping for the day, which included a sumtuous BBQ lunch, snorkelling in the sea, swimming in a lake and sunset watching. This was actually a private tour organised by the owner of the villa himself.
The snorkelling area wasn't fantastic, especially when compared to the place I recently went to in Tioman. Compared to the clear waters with thousands of fish surrounding you in Tioman, this spot that we did snorkelling was the opposite -- the water visibility was low and there weren't many fish. The waters were too shallow too -- I had a long cut on my toe, the result of nasty sharp corals within the reach of your feet.
We were then brought to a freshwater lake (Lake of the pregnant maiden) where we did some swimming & camwhoring of us jumping into the water.
On the way back, we caught the beautiful sunset, on the boat in the sea. It was a refreshing experience to see the sun setting on the same level.
We caught the red ball of fire setting into the horizon in front of us. There were also many fishing trawlers rushing to head out for the night to catch squid overnight.
Our dinner at the nearby Cenang area was great. We had seafood zichar and drinks and it only cost us about S$11 each.
We almost didn't want to sleep for the night too, as we star-gazed + laughed over silly stuff + ate cup noodles + stoned. It was again about 3-ish before we were all on our beds.
Day 4
We checked out and wanted to head for the popular Cable Car + Sky Bridge in Langkawi. The attraction was however, closed due to a technical fault, and hence our only activity on this final half-day was just EATING.
Basically it was this: Breakfast -> Drive -> Lunch -> Flight back -> Dinner. It wouldn't be surprising that most of us would put on a kg or 2 from this trip alone.

This trip was as memorable as the previous Bintan trip a few years back. There're already suggestions for the next trip, most likely another chillax location where we could do the same things again. No matter where ECC goes, the equation has to include: Camwhoring + Food + Games + Laughter. In fact, we never grow old whenever we meet.
