陈绮贞 时间的歌 巡回演唱会--新加坡站 2014
My first concert of the year went to 陈绮贞's solo. It's my first time catching her in a full 3-hour performance and it was a major enjoyment.
Her songs aren't the most mainstream, and that's what I like about them. Very philosophical, very deep, occasionally dark, but always so eerily close to our hearts.
The concert opened with mostly new songs from her recent album, which I hadn't got the chance to listen to yet. I was following the lyrics on the screen, which were handwritten in 青峰's font. The first hour saw Cheer belting out the songs one by one with hardly any connection with the audience. After many songs came her first talking introduction, which finally got the audience cheering, putting an end to the 'dark' beginning.
The more familiar songs came after the first hour, and that was when I realised that she has quite a number of 'crazy' diehards throughout the stadium. You would definitely not expect her to have screaming and jumping fans right? Nor would you expect parts of the audience standing throughout the concert? I was equally surprised. The crowd control staff tried unsuccessfully to keep the audience in the Premium sector from squeezing to the front. I'm sure they soon realised that it was just a very friendly expression of connection between Cheer and her fans.
During some songs, Cheer came down to the audience to have a close connection, granting hugs, handshakes and even taking selfies with the audience. I thought it was the most welcoming gesture that any singer should have. We know Cheer to be a very 'genuine' singer, never putting on airs nor having any negative press. Her 'zero distance' connection also reminded me of 苏打绿, yet another humble band that also deserves to be a people's band.
There were more 'Encores' than the typical concert, but based on my 'concert experiences', these were planned and expected. But having more 'encores' did help in making the fans feel 'more contented' and happy. During one of the Encores, it was her must-sing 旅行的意义, the song during which everyone on stage (and some diehard fans) would put on a helmet simultaneously. [To know the significance, watch the MV for the song]. We didn't notice anyone near us wearing a helmet during the song, but we did see someone holding on to one before entering the venue.
It was truly a great concert and is definitely worth catching the next time she's back.
人生是黑白的.
