It feels good to complete another race today. Sometimes, it's important to have something different lined up in your life to look forward to break the mundane cycle (at work). Participating in races is one.
Lions Biathlon is a fundraising charity event which I signed up with BK in February. It's not a full-scale Biathlon as people may think-- the course was 800m in the pool and a 5km run. Contrary to what you may think, I will never attempt a "real" biathlon, because I can never imagine swimming 1.5km in the open sea.
To train up for this event, I'd been going for weekly swims on top of my weekly runs. My diligence originated from the race requirement that the 800m swim must be completed within 24 minutes. I saw my progress since February, when I couldn't fare anywhere near 24 minutes. By April, I could do under 23 minutes. Today I pushed a little harder, and was under 22 minutes. Definitely not a wonderful timing yet, but I was quite happy.
I definitely liked how the organisers made it light-hearted and encouraged the swimmers to do some exotic strokes, like Butterfly. I also liked how they'd removed the 'competitive' nature of races, by telling participants that 'you'd be counting the number of laps yourself', instead of having an official lap counter for everyone. I personally thought that it made the event more enjoyable. After all, it's all in the name of charity.
人生是黑白的.
