Last week was a truly nasty week at work-- I could feel the stress and expectations coming over me. An entire week of OT was enough to tire me inside-out. Work-life balance, please come back! I found comfort in knowing that there was a long weekend (Good Friday) at the end of the week, and I think I deserved every minute of it.
But rest enough I didn't.
Good Friday.
I had to pull my body out of bed at 4:30 am on Friday morning, for annual tomb-sweeping. Papa was the default driver all the way to ulu Lim Chu Kang, and I told myself to help to look out for traffic, in case he fell asleep behind the wheel. In the end, the next thing I knew, I had fallen asleep myself, and we were already there at the destination.
Then, I behaved like a walking zombie the entire day, really sleeping everywhere. It didn't help that there was an outing with a few Campcomm friends in the afternoon to ulu Punggol, where we ended up lost and walked in circles to reach the Punggol Waterway Park. Anyway, just like most other man-made parks in Singapore, it was overrated. Firstly, it was extremely inaccessible to reach. Secondly, I don't appreciate the irony when we embrace man-made parks on one hand, and destroy natural sites on the other. (The old, quaint forested and rustic Punggol that I vaguely remember was largely gone.) Thirdly, these "Waterfront" views aren't the least spectacular--it's really a pseudo-river, with bridges and benches by the side. With the high-density housing in the pipeline, you'd probably soon see more people than grass there.
Good Saturday.
A few of us Campcomm boys decided to have a little Staycation at Pan Pacific Hotel, as part of a little promotion with a certain running event. Spending a vacation locally meant that you get part of the 'holiday' feel, at a portion of that price. It was great because it was a much-needed breather that every one of us yearned. Late night card games were obviously part of the deal too.
Good Sunday.
Woke up really early again after a really late night, because the room-mates needed to go for the running event. I didn't register for this run, but I sneaked in to run anyway, because that distance would take care of my regular weekly running mileage.
It was quite a little hide-and-seek with the race officials, who were there to "catch" unregistered runners at the event. I succeeded and managed to enter the race pen; completed the run; drank the isotonic drinks; took the medal; took the towel; took the free beer at the end of the race; and shamelessly nodded when an offical shouted "Hey! Are you a runner?!" and then ran away from her. Obviously I was, and am, guilty and to you who are reading this: Please don't do this, it's wrong.
I was glad my epic weekend ended with mahjong with 07/04 guys. It's a guarantee that the long weekend would end well and my pre-Monday blues wouldn't start as early.

(As I typed this, I was yawning continuously. Likely to be a reflection of how my April would be too?)
