2012 Resolutions Score-card
1. "Weigh 60kg."
Verdict: Success! For the first time!
2. "Improve on both Japanese and Cantonese. For the former, I hope to put in some hours during the week. For the latter, I shall continue watching TVB dramas."
Verdict: Success! I started the year barely knowing some Cantonese words, but ended the year being able to follow some drama lines without looking at the subtitles, thanks to the many TVB dramas watched during the year. On the other hand, it was bad for Japanese. I stopped Japanese lessons from May this year.
3. "Achieve 350km mileage at the end of the year. Be comfortable running at a pace of 5min/km. Attempt to complete half marathon under 2 hours. Attempt to complete full marathon under 5 hours."
Verdict: Success! I did 526km the entire year. Although I didn't complete a half marathon under 2 hours, I completed both the marathons I did this year under 5 hours. That was a PB timing.
4. "Read a book per quarter on average."
Verdict: Some success! I read 2 books: 东京铁塔 by Lily Franky, and 1Q84 by 村上春树。
5. "Pursue new interests. For a start, improve on climbing skills. Be able to cook more signature dishes too."
Verdict: Neutral. I didn't follow up on climbing after the basic course late last year, nor did I try learning to cook more dishes. But there had been new interests nevertheless, in the likes of Postcrossing and postcards collection; and spending time editing photos for photobooks; and also falling deeper into watching Cantonese dramas.
6. "Get a job that I am happy to be in. At the very least, achieve work-life balance and maintain a healthy work attitude that motivates myself."
Verdict: Neutral. Getting a job took much longer than expected. Instead of a work-life balance, there was a major tilt in the life-life imbalance, where a very long 8-month holiday befell me.
7. "Embark on a graduation trip that I truly enjoy, truly cherish, truly learn."
Verdict: Success! Did alot of things during the month-long graduation trip to Europe, truly memorable, enjoyable, cherished and much to learn. Notably, I left Singapore at least 6 times this year, and ticked off some items in my bucket list.
8. "Be a better son and a better family member."
Verdict: Nil. This isn't something for me to rate, and it's ongoing.
9. "Smile more to others; work on etiquette; be conscious of actions; be self-reflective and be more open."
Verdict: Neutral. I had definitely been more self-reflective. But I'll be better next year.
10. "Maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle. Exercise regularly; sleep early; eat properly; complain less; and give. Every day shall be positive."
Verdict: Neutral. You know, when you have a really long holiday, there will be times when you tell yourself to keep to a healthy routine, and there're times when you're bound to revert to your unhealthy ways. But I'll be better next year.
