It's only mid-week, and it's been a pretty positive one.
1. I finished watching a great drama.
“千方百计” (Gameplan) was the much talked-about Channel 8 drama that ended its run on Monday. 哇哇映画 (Wawa Productions) scored yet another victory in their drama attempts. To be honest, even before the drama aired, I knew it had to be good, because I could tell it was another Wawa show. “拍。卖”、“魔幻视界”、“注。定”、“一切完美”、“一切完美2” were all previous shows by Wawa that had garnered rave reviews and viewership ratings, but unfortunately, I had missed all of them. If I'm not mistaken, the only Wawa drama that I had successfully followed was last year's “行医”that gave 陈澍城 his 最佳男配角. It was super good, and was one of my favourite 9pm shows in 2011.
“千方百计”caught my attention right from the first 15 minutes in Episode 1. It was a totally fresh plot in local dramas, dealing heavily with the art of con. It's not so much as to what the story revolves around, but it's the constant plot twists and surprises that lurked inside each episode that captivated me. It's really rare that I could get "mindblown" (some fans in Twitter preferred the term 'mindf*cked') constantly and really scratched my itch for good local plots.
The winning formula of this drama also included a great choice of accompanying music and songs, together with very nicely-done edits and flashbacks, and a slate of actors and actresses that brought life to the characters. Thumbs up and kudos.
Positive reviews for the drama in the newspapers were plenty, and it's a rare case too. And daily, from 9pm to 10pm, the Twitter sphere would be alive with audiences discussing the story (and some idiots posted spoilers sometimes). It was just too enjoyable. It did remind me of "The Liar Game" from Japan, but no, these 2 are different and both are great.
So, to the scriptwriter 何启安: Thank you for such a great piece of work. May 哇哇 produce more top-quality dramas.
And to Mediacorp Studios: Please learn from the team at 哇哇. No doubt you did a good job with a few dramas this year, but I'd rather some crappy ones not be aired at all. I'd seriously not mind having more dramas outsourced to 哇哇映画.
2. I took a burden off my shoulders.
Some of you had heard this from me, and if you haven't, you will. My bumming days will be over soon and freedom's going to end with it. BUT I'm finding myself cherishing the days more. I've set a personal deadline to finish reading my 1Q84 by the end of this month, and the momentum's great.
3. I heard a great speech today.
America voted and decided on a leader for the next 4 years. I was a little excited for them, and was following the live counting process right from this morning. (Believe me, I can now name more than 2/3 of the states off my head. I can probably tell you which of them voted for who.) I was hoping for a Obama win, not entirely because he is a great leader, but because I think Romney will be much worse.
When I say I "follow" a certain event, it would mean from various sources simultaneously. TV live updates was one; Twitter live updates was another. For the entire 4-hour process, I could see that the sentiments on Twitter were strongly Obama-leaning, which turned out true, albeit an early Romney lead in the electoral college.
But what really made my day, was a great victory speech from Obama, something that was lacking when our local leader won the General elections last year. I can't exactly find a good quote to put here, simply because there were too many. I'm someone who loves listening to speeches (political or otherwise), and this was one great speech that I hadn't heard for awhile.
