It was another homecoming to DHS last night, for DHSNPCC's 50th anniversary celebrations.
I remember being part of 40th anniversary, when I was still a 15-year-old boy, when the unit was still in its heydays. That occasion was a busy one for us: building all sorts of structures, including the huge but sturdy gateway, totally out of wooden logs. It was held on the school field. I couldn't remember much of the performances, but I can remember the atmosphere.
Fast forward 5 years, the 45th anniversary was held in a temporary campus that belonged to old RJC, while our Tanjong Rhu campus was undergoing a huge expansion. I didn't quite remember much about that day, probably partly because it was on a foreign compound. But I could remember quite a turnout from our squad.
This year, the 50th anniversary was finally back at Tanjong Rhu, in the newly expanded DHS compound. Many old boys and girls returned, most of them unfamiliar to me. Although performances remain to be cheesy and novice, I reminded myself that they are secondary school students and that we were just like them 10 years ago! Probably one thing that is starkly different now, is how "Ang Moh" the unit has become, since 10 years ago. It's really not something that I'm used to see, and I hope the original roots and cultures will not be lost. 15 of us in the squad attended, and it made for a good catch-up and gathering.
人生是黑白的.
