The last day of campaigning. A record-breaking 30,000 supporters were present, even when there were a whopping 15 rallies at the same time.
Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim and Low Thia Khiang delivered the best speeches today (5th May). I can use 4 words to summarise the tone of the speeches: 语重心长。
Pritam Singh's speech was especially moving and inspiring, calling youths not to give up on the country, no matter what happens after polling day. He called youths to push for a 21st century governance.
Sylvia Lim's speech included a summary of what the team in Aljunied stood for, and how their experiences will bring value to the constituency. She lamented on how, as an NCMP, she was unable to render more help to residents, as the govt had said that Ministries will not respond to letters written by NCMPs.
Low Thia Khiang did a very wonderful wrap-up on behalf of the party. MM Lee had challenged him in the 2006 election to leave Hougang and stand in a GRC. And here he is, leading the team in Aljunied. He also made a good point, saying that if SM Goh had charged that George Yeo "cannot be lost", then why still field him in the GRC, knowing that it was the GRC that garnered the least votes for the PAP in 2006?
The rally ended with the classic pledge-taking moment, as it did in 2006. 30,000 people recited the pledge at the top of their voices, led by Pritam Singh. DO WATCH the video HERE.

With that, 8 days of rallies had come to a close. I just realised I had been outside, listening to live rallies for 5 out of the 8 days. Now, with life beginning to return to normal, I hope I won't feel disoriented. But the fact is, I will miss the speeches. I will miss the very real sentiments from the ground. I will miss how the crowds disperse after attending WP rallies, all chanting the same 2 words.
We're now into Cooling-off Day. I had hoped to see a fair play by the incumbent party. But it's sad that it will not be. WP had just released a statement to dispel the accusations brought about by the incumbent party, just before Cooling Day.
