The week started with our monthly treat. For this month of April, it was my turn to spend my internship pay. I brought them to my favourite Korean restaurant brand, where we had my favourite BBQ dinner.
This was my 4th time at Ju Shin Jung, but the previous 3 times were at the Katong Branch, instead of this West Coast branch. I was kinda impressed by the wait staff here, as most of them seem to speak very fluent and eloquent Mandarin, but their names (on the name tags) were Korean.
Ju Shin Jung never fails to keep me satisfied. I'm already looking forward to the next visit, whenever it may be.
Midweek, I caught the 881-musical.
Interestingly, barely 2 months ago, I caught Kit Chan's performance at the Esplanade Concert Hall. 2 months later, I was at the "other half" of the twin durians-- inside the Esplanade Theatre. Certainly makes me feel a bit more arty farty nowadays.
Anyway, 881 The Musical was one of high standards. Not just in the way the extravagant costumes were presented, the vocals of all the actors and actresses were powerful too. Not to forget the humour in the lines -- they really made me laugh alot.
One memorable line was said by one of the "福禄寿" immortals, who descended upon Sing-ka-pok by a 仙龙 (Heavenly dragon). Then after a while, 2 of the trio wanted to go to some other neighbouring countries. The remaining immortal told them that they would have to take Jetstar instead, because the 仙龙 (Hsien Loong) "在忙着election". -_-
Then when the Durian sisters were PK-ing the Papaya sisters towards the end, the angmoh-pai Durian sisters sang a song in a familiar tune:
"Sioh Siew Mai, Sioh Siew Mai,
No they can't see my Kiasu face..."
(yes, it was a fully re-written "Poker face" that drew lots of laughter)
And there were all the familiar Hokkien songs that I grew up with! Nostalgic to a certain extent!
The production deserves 2 thumbs-up! If they ever release a DVD recording of the musical, pls inform me!
人生是黑白的.
