It's the 清明 period, so we woke up very early for Tomb-Sweeping.
It's really quiet for us this year, cos many relatives couldn't make it today.
I skipped my Nihongo class, and became the only representative of my generation!
And what's the hottest topic around? Elections of course.
Even my tuition kid's mum asked me for my opinion to when the big day might be. I'll share my useless 2 cents' worth if you decide to read on..

1. After tomb-sweeping, we had breakfast at a kopitiam somewhere deep in the ulu west, and it happened to be in the territory of Hong Kah North SMC. I was glad to see Sin Kek Tong doing his diligent weekly walkabouts, and residents being very welcoming. This chairman of the Singapore People's Party is set to battle the incumbent's Amy Khor, unless the incumbents decide to chicken out and field a man instead. We received flyers from one of the SPP's activists. I had wanted to tell him that we could share the flyers, because I hope more flyers could be given to more people instead, which benefits the spread of publicity. But they said younger voters like I are really important, and asked me to share with my friends. I think I'm doing my little tiny bit here..
2. I'm still hoping to be able to vote. Each time I read about Marine Parade GRC being mentioned, it raised my hopes. Then silent again. When the boundaries were first announced, there were interests by the NSP. But before long, we're quiet again. Then when the Opposition Parties held their strategic meetings, we were claimed by the DPP. Then subsequently, I couldn't find updates anymore. Today I read that NSP might be sending a 'suicide squad' over, just like how the WP sent one to Ang Mo Kio GRC in 2006. Please come! It doesn't matter who comes, I just want to FEEL AS IF I live in a democracy and not hope to see people being sent into Parliament uncontested.
3. Now, back to the speculation on when the actual date of GE will be. There are talks of a 30 April one. I'm betting on something like 7 May instead, because it doesn't involve a long weekend, when people are likely to be away. Furthermore, the gahmen can make good use of the Mayday Rally and the Labour Day Speech to work in its favour. Also, 7 May is just after the collection of the Grow-and-Share packages, which feel-good Singaporeans may feel obliged and decide to vote for them.
4. Over the past week, the mainstream gahmen-controlled newspapers had been flooded with Headlines with stories from the incumbent party. I really feel it's a case of overdoing. Look, I'm more concerned with the latest developments regarding the nuclear disaster in Japan, than to be greeted, on the front page, with 3 smiling faces last Monday on ALL newspapers across ALL languages. Is it fair to only showcase the new candidates of the men-in-white on front pages across ALL newspapers (including free tabloids), but at the same time, hiding the Opposition's new candidates deep in some remote pages?
5. Then 2 or 3 days later, all newspaper headlines were SCREAMING headlines about Jayakumar and Tarmugi stepping down from East Coast GRC. Wow, is this really such grave news that takes precedence over everything else? I almost thought that something very bad had happened to them, like a cut in their pay!
6. Anyway, I'm really speculating that Jayakumar could be stepping down now, because there's something even more important awaiting him -- Presidential elections in the 3rd quarter of this year. As a Presidential candidate cannot be simultaneously be from a political party, it's a good time to step down from his party now, and then stand -uncontested- to be our next "elected" President.
Ok, that's all at the moment!
人生是黑白的.
