I watched on youtube (Click it!) the freak flooding that created a new Orchard River in Singapore, with much interest.
Flash floods aren't new to Singapore. But when it finally encroaches on the important shopping belt during the Great Singapore Sail Sale, it grabs attention.
The timing could not have been any better: A few days ago, the ranking of Town Councils put Tanjong Pagar (which encompasses Orchard Road) as the BEST TOWN COUNCIL. Yes, OF COURSE Potong Pasir and Hougang are ranked last, but no, there's no flooding in these "dirty estates"!
So why not pay the Ministers even more, for these out-of-the-blue incidents that they have to take care of? Or let's be flexible and increase ERP rates to the flood-prone areas during heavy rains, in case too many cars utilise those roads and make matters worse? Or just raise the GST to 10%, to use the money to dig more drains, canals and Marina Barrages?
人生是黑白的.
