Just back from a Wake.
Have you ever wondered,
What is the WORST thing that can ever happen on a trip?
Getting lost? Losing money? Getting conned?
Neither.
It's when you're travelling overseas, and receive news that your loved one(s) had passed away all of a sudden. I'm sure it's a very helpless circumstance, miles and miles away from your other kins.
Our friend T.A. (affectionately known by us as Jeab) lost his dad when it was halfway through the trip. I won't forget that scene when he broke the news to us. A moment ago, we were still discussing on the time to wake up the next day, and perhaps how we're gonna drive to the Niah caves. Then came the 'My dad passed away. My brother sms-ed me.'. The rest of the 6 of us literally froze. I, being on the upper bunk at that time, looked down at Royce and our jaws dropped. No one immediately knew how to react, all half-expecting that we heard wrongly.
I'm sure only the 7 of us can truly understand that kind of atmosphere. The world stood still. It was cold, sharply sad, and unbelievable. We secured him a flight out of Miri the next morning, but im sure every second there was eternity.
---------------
So we had a mini OCIP gathering at the Wake. What an occasion for a 'gathering' eh. It was a Taoist ceremony, but after some 'tutorial' by dad, now I realised how important that a Buddhist ceremony should be chosen instead. Or at least have some Buddhist chants. But well, it's up to the family.
I shall post the interesting happenings on the Miri trip soon. Once I've decided when to start, though.
人生是黑白的.
