It was a special dinner last Friday, for the Final Crew onboard RSS Sea Tiger.
And yes, 'Final Crew' means the very last people to work on the ship. The ship has been in service for more than 30 years, and from 10 Sept 07, it has finally breathed its last, and stood down from active service. It will be officially decommissioned next year.
And I guess I ought to feel honoured to be able to be remembered as part of the Final Crew of the ship. Too many people had served onboard these 30 over years, and I actually witnessed how the ship gracefully sailed her last mission. I was part of the action.
Yes, the live missile firing was unforgettable too. I saw for myself the speed and accuracy of the missile. It was tremendous, intense and heartening. I remembered that my heart skipped a beat, afraid that it wouldn't hit the target.
