Tokyo Trip Day 5: 19 November 2007, Monday.
Today's a sightseeing day! We bought a Hakone 2-day pass, as it allows us to take 6 different modes of transport at the Hakone area, and it costs like Y3900 (S$51)! And because we only visited the area for a day, it is quite a waste not to sell off the ticket to potential visitors.
Hakone (箱根) was beauuuuutiful! And the mountains are not just green. The trees were yellow, orange and red as well.
We took a bus to Lake Ashi, where we boarded a 'pirate' sightseeing cruise across the lake. We were supposed to see the majestic Mt Fuji in the background, but there were just too much clouds! Unlucky!
This is the ship we took. (above)
I think this ship looks nicer.
The ship brought us to Togendai-ko, where we boarded the ropeway.
How careless!
We took the ropeway up one of the mountains. The thick clouds affected the view of Mt Fuji, but at least we could still see it stand majestically in the background.
Mt Fuji is the very light-coloured mountain at the centre. It's snow-capped peak is covered by clouds.
At the top of the mountain, we took a photo with a Japanese family whom we got to know inside the ropeway.
There's a sulphur hot spring here, and we could smell the yellow sulphur. Pretty nice view.
Can you see the yellow sulphur?
We took the ropeway down to Mount Sounzan, where a cablecar (it is actually a slanted railway) brought us down to Gora (強羅).

At Gora, we had wanted to take a bus to bring us closer to Mt Fuji, but we had missed an earlier bus, and if we waited for the next one, we might have trouble returning, since it would be quite late.
So we took the Hakone-Tozan Railway back to Odawara (小田原), where we hopped on to the JR line back.
Katsu Don + Udon for Y690 (S$9)!
