this afternoon, my family went to watch "Just follow law", Jack Neo's latest film starring Fann Wong and Gurmit Singh. Watching a movie as a family together is a rare event in itself, let alone watching it on CNY EVE, so i was quite surprised that my suggestion was given much support.
I simply love Jack Neo's movies, for the way it portrays us. Much as you may hate how his movies mirror our lifestyle, you can't stop telling yourself "oh, that's so true!".
"just follow law" was really SO TRUE about government bodies. Especially so in what I see in my military life. The "shooting" of arrows by E-mailing here and there takes place just everyday in there. Any complaints or any 'bu-shuangs' will just be settled with the shooting of emails, because of their nature as 'black-and-white'. Everything I see actually got an airing in the movie.
And did anyone notice there were some relevances to the elections last year? I only spotted 2!
#1: Daughter had a maths test.
Girl: Dad, my maths results! There were 84 questions, and i scored 66.6%! Dad: Ok, not bad for a first test!
The relevance: Ok, my dad didn't even notice the relevance until I told him. There were 84 parliament seats during the elections, which was PM Lee's first elections. His party garnered 66.6% of votes.
#2: Auntie went to register for course.
After completing the form, she wanted to put it in the bag, but was stopped by the receptionist.
Receptionist: Hey, you cannot put into your bag. Auntie: Huh ok.. You all installed CCTVs is it?
The relevance: This is a more obvious relevance. Can't remember? Does James Gomez incident ring a bell?
--------------------------- I think the movie deserves to be watched. Watch for how true it was for our country's government bodies, watch for how clever the story plot was, and also how Fann and Gurmit switched roles and pit their acting skills against each other. Watch it also, for it is a local production.
Sidenote: The auntie in the movie said that she has a blog right? I went to that blog address, and realised that someone had already set up for her! It's laozhabor.blogspot.com! --------------------------- By the way, i'll be going malaysia for visiting on First Day and Second Day of new year. So I'll be uncontactable during these 2 days. Just don't blame me if I don't reply sms-es. :)
