yesterday (7 apr, friday), was my mum's birthday..
and so, i bought a cake for her today, immediately after booking out...
and i guess it really brightened up her day....
afterall, im not the kind of person who freely and comfortably express my love for family members.. cos it feels kinda awkward to be so expressive..
but i dare say that im quite filial, and i always try my best not to keep my parents worried.
i just hope that the lovely little surprise today, will make her feel that, she will never be forgotten..

Oh, since the subject is on my mum, let me present to you....
My Modern MumRecently, i realised that mum's getting more n more modern.
She watched every episode of Project Superstar, Star Idol, SuperHost, and even the just-concluded Campus Superstar (which i thought would only appeal to school students and the most, up to only teenagers)..
Yeah, every episode means from the auditions, to the competitions, to the results and elimination shows, to the grand finals. And i remember seeing how excited and anxious she was when it comes to results shows. When some particular contestants get booted out, i can see that she was crestfallen. When some contestants were able to advance, i can sense that she was relieved.
In her free time in the office, she would log on to the websites and check out the forums on what ppl comment on the competitors. i remembered during project superstar (which was after JCT and before prelims), she was the one who was updating me on forummers' comments..
Then, Campus Superstar started this year, which meant i had absolutely no chance to watch cos im in camp. BUT, i can always get remedials in this area from her.. Things like, "which school is this person from" or "wads his/her name" or "who got into the finals" etc, she can give u the answer almost immediately.. So don't you tink that Campus Superstar only appeals to frenzy school students out dere....cos the show also interests the older generation, like my mum.
Then starting this year, i found out another thing. I am no longer the only person in the family who tunes in to yes933's
long hu bang every sunday (12noon to 2pm). From the beginning of the year, at that particular time slot, 3 radios will be switched on. 1 in my room, 1 in my sisters' room, and 1 in the kitchen!!! THe portable radio at the kitchen was supposed to cater for my mum, when she prepares the sunday lunch. Hey, the station was tuned to 93.3, instead of 95.8 or 97.2!
though i suspect that the reason why she listens to
long hu bang was for supporting chen weilian's songs on the charts, it may not necessarily be so. Cos she pays attention to every song. There was once when my sis asked mum: "wad do u tink of jj's
cao cao?" Her answer: "oh, its not bad.. i think its much better than jay chou's
huo yuan jia" I was kinda shocked, cos i never expected her to be so well-informed in terms of song titles and singers and all that.. furthermore, all these were considered very new songs at that time.. Such new songs can even leave a deep impression on her... Now im suspecting whether she tunes in to the station in the office as well..
hMm, more talent shows are coming up. The SuperBand, Singapore Idol and Project Superstar 2006 are gonna hit the screens soon. I confirm + guarantee + bet that my mum will be glued to the tv screen during the times these shows are aired.
So although there are repeated complaints from the public, about the overflowing talent shows being produced, to me i think its no harm, cos it brings entertainment to my mum. she enjoys it all tremendously.
i've learnt it-- never to underestimate my mum, my modern mum.
