MyElectionsGossip #1George Y made a statement, saying that Upgrading is an ongoing task and is not part of a strategy used in constituencies at election time.
This is totally unconvincing.
Then why did smchoktong made promises that the 2 opposition wards would get their desired upgradings, if the voters voted for his party and hence allowed it to achieve a clean sweep?
Wasn't that a sweetener? An attempt to lure voters? An elections strategy?
Think about it, using upgrading as an election ploy isn't fair in any way.
some parties have the financial backing to make promises to the electorate to 'improve their lives', such as upgrading works. And where do the money come from? From the electorate themselves, and accumulated over 40 years. Its obvious that it would have the upper hand when it comes to making such sweet promises.
other parties would therefore lose out. using upgradings as an election strategy certainly don't make sense, if we are talking about the fairness and equal playing ground.
If potong pasir and hougang residents are discriminated against and are left out of the country's upgrading efforts, just because they are opposition wards, can they be excused from paying income taxes? Otherwise they are merely contributing their wealth to help politicians who play politics in a rather unfair way. Aren't they fellow singaporeans?
If u dare, leave that out of elections. Be professional and transparent when it comes to elections. Underhand tactics don't really portray a gd image, does it?

1912 ppl (as of publish time) are feeling the same way as i do. Upgrading should be a separate issue.
