This year marks the final year that i will be under the Singapore Education System. In conjunction with TEACHER'S DAY, I shall look at my past 12 years of education and evaluate the various form teachers I have..
The 1st 6 years of Primary Education... At Eunos Primary School.Primary 1: Class 1/8Form teacher: Mrs Wong Soon PohAs she was my teacher some 12 years ago, my impression of her had long faded in memory.. And i guess i wouldn't really recognise her now.. But, i can remember her as a motherly figure, and was a patient and dedicated teacher.. She was the one that exposed me to education and laid down the bricks for my foundation, which still holds strong today. I didn't really interact with her then, but still, i guess she made a difference. She wouldn't remember me of course, for i was such a normal student. And when i graduated at primary 6, i went to look for her to sign my autograph book, but well, she couldnt recall teaching me.. haha.. and she told me she would be retiring then. So i guess by now she should have retired for 5 years already???
Rating: 3 stars
Primary 2: Class 2/1Form teacher: Mrs Choo Eng HockWell, pardon me for saying this, she is the worst teacher i've ever seen. She had a very very bad temper and i really couldn't remember her smiling even once. And of cos i cant remember even having ONE lesson in peace. She was so successful to make EVERYONE so fearful of her.. Frankly, i shiver in her presence. Not joking. IF she mentioned my name, my heart will skip many beats, thinking that my death is near. Well, i guess it would be incomplete to leave out some of her actions in class...
1. pulling girls' hair, until she hears 'OOouCHh'.
2. pulling AND THEN twisting ears.
3. slapping and hitting
Her stern look, her high-pitched voice, her curly hair, her everything, really piece together to become the worst terrorist in the eyes of young and innocent 8 year-olds. That's why, i was suffering under the tyrant rule for one whole year, and when i finally proceeded to primary 3, i was so happy to be freed.
Right now, i juz sincerely hope that the NONE of the many cases of maid abuse or maid deaths are related or linked to her..
Rating: 0 stars (cos i learnt nothing from her, perhaps except for violence)
Primary 3 and 4: Class 3/1 and Class 4/1Form teacher: Mrs Nabeesah WongAn Indian teacher married to a chinese husband.. She was great. She was a keen and dedicated teacher, who taught me english and maths. She treated the class very well and her encouragement really pushed me forward. perhaps it was because of her, i got streamed into EM1.. she really did a lot to help us and i really gained a great deal from her in the 2 years. When i proceeded on to P5, i sort of missed her teachings.. And to be a bit thick-skinned, i think i was quite well-liked by her.. haha..

Primary 5 and 6: Class 5/1 and 6/1Form teacher: Mdm Siti ArfahShe left me the deepest impression of my primary school days. She taught me english maths science, and i really really really loved her teachings. She was excellent in making the lessons wonderful and she was willing to go the extra mile to mould us into better students. She was equal to everyone and she never gave up on anyone. I must really say that i gained soooo much from her.. i joined her science club, and benefitted well from it as well. She was quite motherly too la, and she is quite a good contributing factor to make me achieve 261 aggregate points in psle..
our class went to her house at siglap.. it was soo big lor. i liked her backyard, which includes a small hill where she grew a tree..(was it a durian tree?).. ya, really had so much fun then.. so, the 2 years under mdm siti was enriching and fun-filled.. perhaps without her, primary school days would be much duller.. i really have to THANK her!

Not forgetting.......My chinese teacher, Mdm Foo (primary 5 and 6)It was Mdm foo who brought up in me the deep interest in chinese language!!! she taught me both chinese and higher chinese in EM1.. i enjoyed her chinese lessons veryyy much. i can still remember scoring an average of 101 out of 110, in all the chinese paper 2.. and i tink i even got 105/110 in major exams.. haha. without her, i wouldnt be so interested in chinese, and that would certainly change the way i am now.. she laid my foundations in the language, such that when i got into secondary level, it wasnt that difficult to grasp the language.. Occasionally, our class still meet up with her to update each other.. well, our close relationship with her should be due to the fact that we r her last students before retiring.. Let me wish her good health!

The next 4 years of Secondary Education..... At Dunman High School.Secondary 1 and 2: Class 1I and Class 2IForm teacher: Mdm Kong Choy Linwow. i simply love her. well, i guess im one of the rarest already, cos many others dun seem to like her.. haha. She was my form teacher, chinese teacher and art teacher. let me juz talk about chinese.. She was the reason why i can continue my deep interest in chinese and i maintained it throughout the secondary years. She was a good joker.. i was deeply entertained by her actually.. i looked forward to her lessons everytime and i really benefitted alot lor. my chinese standards were able to rise to 'higher than average level', due to her teachings. She may be strict sometimes, but i think she was always right. i really miss her actually. Then this year, i met her opposite TJC at the hawker centre and GOSH, she still remembers me and can still call out my unique chinese name! i was touched. really touched. then she told me she retired already lor.. hai. i wonder when can i get to meet her again. cos, to me, she really made a difference to me. she is one of the few teachers that i wouldnt forget. thank you!

Secondary 3 and 4: Class 3B and Class 4BForm Teacher: Miss Nurul HudaFinally ms huda!!! She is the best yet.. She is the first teacher that i don't feel as though she is one. Cos, she treats us all like friends and there isnt a gap between us.. the tradition in dhs is to bow a teacher when we greet, but many a times, she requested us not to bow to her.. And, she is so warm and nice that all of us really respected her, though she is only 10 years older. And hey, she actually gossips with us lor.. she watches chinese drama and can discuss with us.. she grows to like the class after a year, and she is one of the most inspiring teachers i've met. encouraging quotes are given to us, during our stressful O level year. she screened 'dead poet's society' to us, and got us all into 'carpe diem' craze. we were all inspired by her and we strived to ace our O levels. Ms huda really transformed my english grades. from sec 3's Cs to Sec 4's Bs.. then at O levels, i actually got an A1 for english. I totally suck at english, i admit, and so an A1 was beyond my dreams. so i was so touched on results release day, that i went to hug her. she was crying and i too, cos i was deeply touched. i forgot if i managed to pronounce 'thank you', but i guess she can get the msg from my body language..
As her beloved english rep, I was always saboed to be the first to do oral presentations and stuffs.. and speaking about presentations, i can remember yuzhi and i always love to create entertainment during her lessons.. making joker faces, creating noises and all that.. BUT ms huda never minded us.. i muz oso say, her unique way of conducting english lessons was creative and first of a kind..
2 years after graduating, we still meet up with her every year, to celebrate her birthday. She is juz like a big sister and a friend who guides.. to be thick-skinned again, i shall mention that she told wx that she missed me, her beloved english rep.. she said she loved my unique and radiant smile and my wacky ideas during lessons.. well, i miss her too, definitely. hope she won't give up on teaching, cos with her around, more ppl can benefit from her. and hope next year when she gets married, i can attend the wedding!

The last 2 years of Tertiary Education...... At Temasek Junior College.JC 1 and 2: Class 07/04Civics Tutor 1: Mr Desai Piushkant Krishnalal (CT for J1, co-CT for J2)Mr D is one of the most patient teacher i've ever met. my physics teacher for 2 years, he never gave up on us all.. he is dedicated and nice.. actually, he had changed very much after teaching our class.. our class had made him to be more humourous than ever and he had since become a more light-hearted teacher.. yeah! he is an understanding teacher and really really nice la. i respect him alot, but time and again, i disappointed him with my grades during major exams. heh. let me do my best this time round in prelims and A levels! i shan't waste his effort on me in the past 2 years lor. i guess i am really lucky to have gotten him as my phy tutor, if not, i guess i would have given up physics long ago alraedy. thank you mr D!

Civics Tutor 2: Mr Francis Tong Chee BengHe only became our civics tutor in year 2, so our time of interaction with him wasnt that long.. well, when we got news that he would be our CT, we all got shocked.. hello, having a discipline master as CT and GP tutor certainly isn't laughing matter!! BUT, personally i feel that he is not that bad a teacher.. he is a knowledgeable tutor and i muz say i gained alot of general knowledge from him, at least much much more than i was in year 1 la haha. Mr tong is a teacher that strongly believes in school spirit and class spirit.. after all, he was a pioneer student that returned to teach.. So, he gave us his full effort and helped us with the making of the class t-shirt and also the class overnite bbq in school.. he even wanted to bring us on an overnite bike ride, but it was not carried out, due to unavailability of time, which i tink was a pity. i duno abt my classmates, but i am quite inspired by Mr tong.. he had certainly made a difference, though i tink its a small one so far..
